Senate defeats efforts to curtail rights of medical malpractice victims
Good news from Washington. The United States Senate voted down two Motions which would have allowed Senate consideration of the medical malpractice bills designed to limit patient rights.
For the third consecutive Congress, proponents of civil justice and the rights of victims defeated legislation sponsored by powerful interest groups designed to close the courthouse door to those who have been injured as a result of careless medical and hospital care.
Thank you to those who took the time to contact their Senators to urge them not to restrict access to the courthouse.
"The right of trial by jury is a fundamental right of free and enlightened people and an essential part of a free government. Trial by jury in civil cases and trial by jury in criminal cases stand on the same footing: they are the common rights of Americans" Richard Henry Lee of Virginia (1787)
