March Is Brain Injury Awareness Month

March has been designated Brain Injury Awareness Month by the Brain Injury Association of America.  (In prior years, October was earmarked as the month to highlight brain injury awareness but because many health related groups utilized that month, our message got lost by the media.  Hopefully utilizing the month of March will be better for public relations purposes).

The Brain Injury Association of America has prepared information packages that include helpful suggestions for activities that can be conducted during the month of March to raise awareness about brain injury, its tragic consequences and of course, brain injury prevention.  These packages have been mailed out to all state affiliates and include media templates for press releases, fact sheets and activity suggestions.  Portions will be available in mid January on the BIAA web site and the full packages are available through your state brain injury association which may also have additional ideas.   In New York State, click here to contact BIANYS

Brain injury awareness month gives us the opportunity to really educate the public about living with brain damage as well as prevention. Don't wait, it's not too early to start planning your events for March.  You can contact Pat Britz, the Director of Information and Education at the Brain Injury Association for further information.
