De Caro & Kaplen, LLP Has Decades of Experience in Representing Victims of Burn Injury
For the past 26 years we have been involved in assisting victims of burns. We have represented individuals who have received second and third degree burn injuries. We have helped burn injured persons to obtain proper settlements that aid in paying for their necessary rehabilitation and to compensate them for their physical injuries and emotional suffering. We understand how to properly demonstrate how your accident has affected your quality of life as a burn victim, and will help you receive the best treatment for your burn injuries.
Landlord Neglect May Have Caused Your Burn Injury
With one of our cases, the landlord’s failure to change a necessary part on the burn victim’s boiler caused the water temperature to rise to unacceptably high and dangerous levels, which resulted in serious burn injuries for the tenant.
In another case, we represented an elderly man who suffered severe burn injuries when he was left unattended in the bath tub by an orderly who was supposed to be there watching him.
Over the years, we have also investigated and successfully represented burn victims hurt in building fires caused by a faulty electrical system, and fires that went unnoticed because of the absence of smoke alarms. We also represented a burn victim from a gas explosion that occurred when a hot water heater was not installed properly.

Clothing Fires, a Source of Needless Burn Injury
Each year approximately 1/4 million people nationally receive a serious burn injury because the clothing they were wearing caught on fire.
Each day a child or adult becomes a needlessly disfigured burn victim due to clothing that has caught on fire. Although manufacturers know that the technology now exists to flame retard clothing at mere pennies per garment, they have callously chosen not to do so. Instead they hide behind a much criticized federal from the 1950's which allows a garment to be sold even if made of material no safer than a newspaper!
Although precautions exist for the manufacturing of children's sleepwear, makers of children's and adult clothing are not required to meet this standard. The failure of the federal government in this matter does not preclude legal action for any clothing manufacturer’s decision to not voluntarily produce safer garments.
De Caro & Kaplen, LLP Has Received Settlements for Burn Victims due to Clothing Needlessly Catching on Fire
One seriously burned victim we represented was simply reaching over her stove to obtain a pot, when her nightgown met the stove's burner. Because of the faulty way the nightgown was manufactured, she was engulfed in flames and in seconds was seriously burned. The personal injury attorneys at De Caro & Kaplen, LLP achieved a settlement in excess of one million dollars for this young woman.
