In addition to Commissioner Shah and Mr. Pearce, highlights of the Conference include:
• Exciting presentations by individuals with brain injury, family members, and professionals, each offering a different perspective on this complex subject matter.
Some of the sessions scheduled are a roundtable discussion about caregivers; the popular Spirituality session by Rabbi Dan Ornstein; a workshop on creative and artistic outlets; several advocacy-related workshops, including a focus on advocating for change and another on public policy issues in brain injury; and the Department of Health will present information on their 5-year plan for brain injury services in New York and seeks input from attendees.
• The BIANYS Film Festival, a showcase of two documentaries produced by BIANYS on the topic of brain injury, followed by a discussion with participants in the films. We will show Coming Home: Families, Courage, and Resilience after Brain Injury, depicting the story of three veterans from New York State who sustained brain injuries in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, documenting the impact of these injuries on their families. BIANYS will also premiere Keep Moving Forward: Children with Brain Injuries., which chronicles the stories of three families impacted by the brain injuries of their children.
