Parents Sponsor Bike Helmet Giveaway in Honor of Son Who Suffered Fatal Traumatic Brain Injuries in Biking Accident
This Saturday from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. at the Stamford Town Center, Stamford, Connecticut, the parents of Timothy Coppola who would have turned 21 years old this year are sponsoring a bicycle helmet safety program and helmet giveaway. Each May in cooperation with the Stamford Conn. Police Association a "Timothy Coppola Memorial Helmet Giveaway" is held in his honor. It is expected that over 1,600 helmets will be distributed.
Timothy sustained serious brain injuries at age 8 when he was riding a friend's bicycle without a helmet. He collided with a car on a dead end street. Sadly, Timothy's own bicycle and helmet were sitting in his garage. Since his death, his parents have been raising awareness about the importance of wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle. MANY TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURIES ARE PREVENTABLE. REMEMBER, IT'S NOT ENOUGH TO TELL YOUR CHILDREN TO WEAR A HELMET, YOU MUST SET THE RIGHT EXAMPLE AND WEAR A HELMET YOURSELF!
