Brain Injury Awareness Month

This year, Brain Injury Awareness Month has been moved from October to March.

With at least 1.4 million people sustaining a brain injury each year according to the latest CDC statistics, it is important for all in the brain injury community including persons with a brain injury, neurologists, neuropsychologists, brain injury lawyers and brain injury rehabilitation professionals to participate in activities during the month of March to raise awareness of this national epidemic.

The Brain Injury Association of America has assembled Brain Injury Awareness Kits which they will make available to assist in awarenss efforts.  These kits will include updated fact sheets about brain injury incidence and prevalence, awareness posters was well as information on living with brain injury.  Living_with_brain_injury_1

The kit can be ordered from the Brain Injury Association by going to their home page.  click here.

In New York State, the Brain Injury Association of New York Sate has also prepared materials for brain injury awareness month and plans events throughout March in New York State to highlight the serious consequences of all types of brain injury from concussion to skull fractures to seizure disorders to brain bleeding and swelling and coma.  The association will also focus public attention on brain injury prevention and provide information to help victims of brain injury as well as their family.  More information on the resources available from the Brain Injury Association of New York State can be found on their web site.  click here

As President of the Brain Injury Association of New York State I look forward to participating in events to inform the public of the far reaching consequences of this silent epidemic and focus attention on the needs of individuals who suffer the life long effects of traumatic brain injury.  If I can assist your organization, please contact me.  mvk.brainlaw@verizon.net
